چکیده

Viewing vector/matrix multiplications as " projections onto linear subspaces " is one of the most useful ways to think about these operations. In this note, I'll put together necessary pieces to achieve this understanding.

General Projections in Spaces of Pencils

The notion of the central projection in spaces of pencils is generalized and new concepts of projections are introduced. The category of projectivities with segment subspaces as objects arises. These general projectivities are collineations given by linear maps. Properties of pencils of segment subspaces and projections between segments are investigated. Classical projections of lines onto penc...

New variants of the global Krylov type methods for linear systems with multiple right-hand sides arising in elliptic PDEs

In this paper, we present new variants of global bi-conjugate gradient (Gl-BiCG) and global bi-conjugate residual (Gl-BiCR) methods for solving nonsymmetric linear systems with multiple right-hand sides. These methods are based on global oblique projections of the initial residual onto a matrix Krylov subspace. It is shown that these new algorithms converge faster and more smoothly than the Gl-...

3D Grand Tour for Multidimensional Data and Clusters

Grand tour is a method for viewing multidimensional data via linear projections onto a sequence of two dimensional subspaces and then moving continuously from one projection to the next. This paper extends the method to 3D grand tour where projections are made onto three dimensional subspaces. 3D cluster-guided tour is proposed where sequences of projections are determined by cluster centroids....

Sets invariant under projections onto two dimensional subspaces

The Blaschke–Kakutani result characterizes inner product spaces E, among normed spaces of dimension at least 3, by the property that for every 2 dimensional subspace F there is a norm 1 linear projection onto F . In this paper, we determine which closed neighborhoods B of zero in a real locally convex space E of dimension at least 3 have the property that for every 2 dimensional subspace F ther...

Visual Exploration of High-Dimensional Data: Subspace Analysis through Dynamic Projections

Understanding high-dimensional data is rapidly becoming a central challenge in many areas of science and engineering. Most current techniques either rely on manifold learning based techniques which typically create a single embedding of the data or on subspace selection to find subsets of the original attributes that highlight the structure. However, the former creates a single, difficult-to-in...
